ABSTRACT
In the present study, changes in glutathione S-transferase (GST) enzyme activity were investigated in Ulva rigida specimens, collected from four different depths at six sites in the southern region of the Sea of Marmara. GST enzyme activity showed significant increases and decreases at some sites according to depth. Different abiotic factors affecting all the sites were shown on the Principal Components Analysis axis. Canonical correlation analysis (CANCORR) was performed among abiotic factors the measured and GST enzyme activity in U. rigida specimens. CANCORR analysis results showed that ammonia nitrogen values were negatively correlated with dissolved organic nitrogen values while positively correlated with GST enzyme activity. The present data showed that GST enzyme activity in U. rigida was related to water pollution and abiotic factors.

ABSTRACT
The objectives of this study were to determine land use and land cover (1), measure changes in the shoreline since 1975 (2), define hazard areas attributed to land cover change (3), and describe local landscape pattern characteristics (4) in the Uluabat Wetlands. Analyses were carried out using remotely sensed data from the Landsat MSS 1975, Landsat TM 1987 and Landsat ETM+ 2000 multi-spectral sensor systems. In brief, it has been determined that surface water had decreased by almost seventeen percent from 1975 to 2000. Analyses show an increase in fragmentation of the landscape. The overall change, that the lake experiences, is toward drying up.

ABSTRACT
UV/H2O2 disinfection of surface water containing humic substances was investigated. UV radiation was applied at doses of 68, 136, 204, 272, 341, 409, 545, 681 mWs/cm2 to water samples containing various concentrations of humic acid [0-10 mg Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC)/L] and 0.125 mg/L hydrogen peroxide. Total coliform numbers were determined after UV radiation and dark incubation of the samples. Results showed that the efficiency of bacterial reduction was reduced significantly with increasing concentrations of humic acid in water. Inactivation coefficients (k) for waters containing 0, 1, 5 ve 10 mg DOC/L humic acid were determined to be 0.0232, 0.0162, 0.0151 ve 0.0135, respectively according to Chick-Watson Model. Results of regrowth experiments indicated that free oxygen radicals produced by H2O2 decomposition were also effective for the inactivation of bacteria after the completion of disinfection process.

ABSTRACT
The seasonal variation of the composition and concentration of epilitic diatom flora was investigated at five chosen sampling stations in the Melendiz stream. In addition, temperature and pH were measured and the variation of total organism numbers was investigated in relation to speed of stream flow. The total organism numbers was high in May due to the speed of stream, while decrease speed of stream caused to increase in total organism number as do in June. In this study, Cocconeis placentula var. euglypta, Navicula cryptocephala, Navicula tripunctata, Cymbella ventricosa, Nitzschia amphibia and Nitzschia palea were dominant species in the flora of the stream Melendiz.

ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on macrofungi collected from Batman province in between 2002-2004 years. During field investigations, photos of the macrofungi taxa were taken from their natural habitats. The knowledge of local people about macrofungi and ecological features were recorded. The microscopic data were provided from laboratory studies. According to macroscopic and microscopic investigations, 50 macrofungi taxa were identified belonging to 21 families in Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes classis. So the number of macrofungi taxa in Batman was reached to 76. Especially 3 taxa were added to macrofungi flora of Turkey for the first time in this study. These are; Amanita vittadinii, Dichomitus campestris and Mycena epipterygia var. splendidipes.

ABSTRACT
In this study, COD and dye removal from wastewater of textile dying process was investigated. The adsorbents used in treatment experiments produced from domestic and industrials sewage sludge. After chemical activation with 0.5 - 3.0 M ZnCl2 solution, sludge was subjected to pyrolysis treatment at 500°C in order to provide materials has great porosity and high surface area. Textile industry wastewater samples were supplied from dying and finishing process. The pyrolysis treatment test showed that highest specific surface area; 814.48 m2/g could be achieved with the treatment of industrial waste sludge at 2M ZnCl2 solution, thereafter pyrolysis at 500°C. Adsorbents produced at this condition were added into the adsorption and biological activated sludge treatment system to find out the effect of adsorbent addition on the COD and dye removal efficiency. In reactors of treating of textile dying wastewater, COD removal efficiency increased with increasing additive concentrations from 82% to 96%.

ABSTRACT
The hybrid striped bass (Morone chrysops x Morone saxatilis ) which is distributed to many countries is native to United Stated of America. The hybrid striped bass fries were imported by two separate companies with the permission of Turkish Agriculture Ministry in 1999-2000. The broodstock was first stocked in net cages but contamination occured in Bozdoðan dam lake in Aydýn. As an evidence of contamination a sample fish was catched from the lake. On the hybrid striped bass, at first dorsal fin 9 true spines, at the second dorsal fin 13 soft rays and 1 spine, at anal fin 3 spines and 11 soft rays are located . Small tooth located on each lower and upper jaws. Vomer and palatinde tooth exist in hybrid striped bass. Addionaly two horny teeth section formation is observed on tongue. This study indicates some morphomeristics of the sample fish.

ABSTRACT
In this study, vegetation of Buyukhemit Dere and its surrounding were studied using to Braun-Blanquet method. Two new plant associations, Quercetum macrolepido- cerridis and Minuartio-Astragaletum microcephali belong to forest and steppe vegetation respectively were described and classified syntaxonomically. Phytosociological and phytoecological features of the associations were discussed and compared with their relatives.

ABSTRACT
The phytosociological studies were performed for an identification of the indicator fern the species of beech forests in the central Caspian Hyrcanian forests in Iran. For data analysis the Braun-Blanquet method with Ellenberg table was used. The results show that these beech forest have six associations; two sub associations and one variant. 12 fern species exist in the study area out of which 6 are indicator species of beech vegetation association. Pteridium aquilinum and Asplenium adianthum nigrum are indicator species of the Fageto-Carpinetum association. Polystichum acleatum is an indicator species of the Fagetum orientalis typical sub association. Polystichum ofilliricum is an indicator species of the Fagetum orientalis lathyretosum sub association. Phyllitis scolopondrium and Asplenium adianthum are indicator species of the Buxo-Fagetum association.

ABSTRACT
Current risk assessment of various pollutants in aquatic environments is largely based on results from single-species laboratory studies. At the same time, there are very complex interactions between microflora, algae and zooplankton in natural waters, which are able to alter the direct effects of some toxicants. This study was done to investigate the effect of toxicants on complex aquasystems. To explore it, we treated laboratory invertebrates Daphnia magna with deltamethrin with and without addition of plant excreta. In this study we found that the excreta of Typha angustifolia and Chlorella vulgaris may play a significant role in the regulation of the invertebrate populations to the action of pollutants and we observed a 2-fold to 4-fold increase in survivability and reproduction due to its addition. The role of microflora in Daphnia magna, adaptation to a toxicant was found less significant.
