ABSTRACT
In the municipal solid waste management systems, collection and hauling efforts cover 85% of total system cost. In order to get reduction on those and to save resources, searching for optimization possibilities gains importance. In case of not using an optimization on collection, total cost of the disposal management of the solid waste is getting increased because of "empty mile negativeness". In this optimization study performed for collecting of solid wastes from Trabzon City having 39 neighborhoods, a geo-coded route map of the city was produced. The numerical map also was containing several sub-layers composed of population density and waste amount. Comparison with present collection routes and optimized routes was pointed out a success as average 18% route length and 22% routing time in decrease of entire collection job.

ABSTRACT
In this study, conventional characterization of wastewaters of "Izmit Industrial and Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant" was investigated. In the study of conventional characterization; grab samples, which were taken monthly during a year, were used. The characteristic of wastewater was observed as varying within a wide range. In total wastewater, COD values ranging from 580 to 1822 mg.L-1. The COD/N/P ratio in wastewater to be a mean value calculated as 272/27/1, is very much different from the ratio commonly accepted as necessary to sustain a healthy biological growth. In conventional characterization, the BOD5/COD ratio in wastewater was calculated as 0.20.

ABSTRACT
In this study, Ostracod fauna of Eflatunpınar spring (Beysehir, Konya, Turkey) is described and some major physical and chemical parameters of Eflatunpınar spring were measured. Materials collected from one station were evaluated and 11 ostracod species (Candona neglecta, Cypria ophtalmica, Ilyocypris bradyi, Ilyocypris monstrifica, Prionocypris zenkeri, Herpetocypris chevreuxi, Psychrodromus olivaceus, Heterocypris incongruens, Heterocypris salina, Cypridopsis vidua and Tyrrhenocythere donetziensis) belonging to 9 genera were determined.

ABSTRACT
In this study, carbon (C) mineralization in the soils of Olea europaea L., Pinus brutia Ten. and Pistacia terebinthus L. growing on the different parent materials (marl and conglomerate) in the eastern Mediterranean region (Adana) was investigated. C mineralization in the soils was examined by incubation (30 days) method under controlled conditions (28°C, 80% moist). Difference between the parent materials regarding to C-mineralized (P<0.05) was found only significant in the soils of Pistacia on the third day of incubation, however not significant difference was other days of incubation period. It was also observed being a closely relationship between organic matter quality of these plants and microbial activity. While difference between C mineralization ratios in the soils regarding to parent materials were significant for Pinus (1.39% for marl, 3.30% for conglomerate), this difference was found to be not significant for other two species. This difference observed for Pinus can be explained with being higher of the total ratio of silt and clay in the soils with marl (58.99%) than in the soils with conglomerate (31.02%). Based on these results, it is possible to conclude that organic matter in the soils with marl is bound firmer than the soils with conglomerate and protected from biodegradation.

ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to determine physico-chemical characteristics and fish of Dipsiz and Cine Stream. The water and fish samples were taken from 7 stations. Physico-chemical datas were measured as following (minimum-maximum); water temperature (8.1-20.1°C), conductivity (434-989 µScm-1), pH (7.11-8.4), pressure (969- 1020 mbar), dissolved oxygen (4.1-10.7 mg/L), BOD5 (0.5-6.9 mg/L), ammonium (0-1.8 mg/L), nitrite (0-0.15 mg/L), nitrate (5-80 mg/L), clorid (15-45 mg/L), total hardness (9- 21.4°dH), acid bound ability (3.1-13.2 mmol/L), calcium (64.2-153.7 mg/L) and magnesium (38.5-91.5 mg/L). The physico-chemical data were evaluted and the water quality classes of the chosen stations in Dipsiz and Cine Stream were determined. In the research area, 10 species and 4 subspecies belonging to Osteichthyes classis were determined.

ABSTRACT
In this study, the studies executing and planning in Izmir Bird Paradise wetland together with the ecological structure and the protection statues of the area are found. One of the studies done in this aspect is the pollution detection and measurement study in this wetland. The analysis of the water samples taken from main drainage canal was done periodically in each month; the alterations in the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Soluble Material parameters belonging to years 2000, 2001 and 2002 were observed. According to that, in 2001 the BOD, COD and Total Soluble Material values increased with respect to 2000, but in 2002 they decreased with respect to the previous year, the water quality conformed to the 4th class criteria according to the Water Pollution Protection Regulations. On the other hand, while pH parameter showed a decrease in 2001 according to 2000, in 2002 it increased and conformed to 2nd class water quality value.
